Spring Cleaning Tips

Spring cleaning is both dreaded and anxiously awaited in many households. It is a time to clean up things you should’ve been cleaning all along and get a fresh start with the spring season. Before starting your spring cleaning, you really need to make a plan of attack. It is quite an undertaking and the chores can quickly seem insurmountable. But taken chunk by chunk, you should be able to get a nice, deep clean for your entire house by the end of the month.

The Outdoors

One of the most looked forward to areas to clean for spring is the outdoors. You haven’t seen your dark, green grass in a while and oh, how you’ve missed it. Scour your property for loose sticks and branches to clean up in advance of any lawn maintenance. Check through mulched or stoned areas to group back any loose mulch or stones.

Grab the ladder and go to town on the gutters. After even a mild winter, you can expect a filthy buildup of leaves and mud in the gutters. This is a very important tasks and failing to clean gutters could result in water that overflows due to clogs. This overflow will fall very close to the house, which is exactly the opposite of what gutters are for.

The Kitchen

The kitchen is probably one of the most frequently cleaned places in a household. Counters are often wiped down because of everyday use. However, this is your chance to do a very deep clean. Make an effort to wipe down stainless steel appliances and even wash all of your kitchen cabinets. You’d be surprised just how much grime buildup can occur within a few months.

The Bedrooms

Bedrooms are typically maintained throughout the year but spring cleaning is a great excuse to get up on a ladder and thoroughly wipe down the dormant fan blades. You can also clean the grates of vents and heat returns. A thorough game of “keep or toss” of your wardrobe should also occur every spring.

The Unseen

Finally, spring cleaning is a good time to check things that are usually not on the top of the mind. This includes checking doorways and windows for any visually unnoticeable gaps where air can leak through. This will be a big help to your electric bill come summer. You should also check the attic to determine the state of some of your insulation. If you’ve never seen your attic or its insulation, it might be time to give us a call.
